Our First Home on Wheels (cont.)

As with any home, you must put your own touches in it to make it yours.  We changed several things as soon as we picked it up, knowing the style of camping we like to do.

First of all, the factory mattress had to go.  We installed a Tri-Pedic memory foam mattress purchased from Selectabeded.com.  They even offered a Good Sam discount.

We enjoy boondocking because of the peace and quiet it affords, plus most National Park campgrounds don’t have any hook ups.  We don’t like listening to a generator.  So in order to extend battery life, we installed two 110 watt solar panels on the roof and four group 31 AGM 12v batteries.  Our coach came “generator ready” which means there is a storage space under the bedroom at the front of the trailer.  We installed the batteries, switches, and inverter there.  The floor of that compartment needed additional support added to handle the weight of the batteries.

The next modification was the kitchen sink faucet.  We replaced it with a residential style single lever with sprayer built into the main faucet.  We also replaced the plastic lined sink with a stainless steel sink this year.  The plastic one stained badly and was impossible to keep clean.

Cathy and I use the onboard water tank and pump all the time.  That way, the tank remains fresh and clean.  I fill the tank when needed (about every two days) from the campground water supply but I filter all the water with a two stage filter system from The RV Water Filter Store.
