Workamping
In our years of fulltiming, we have volunteered in National Parks, worked in commercial campgrounds near National Parks, worked for concessionaires in the National Parks, and worked “regular” jobs from time to time. In every situation, we have worked in the “customer service” arena. Dealing directly with the public can be challenging, but in every job so far, we have seen that 99% of the public are great folks. And we can honestly say that we have enjoyed most every job and met some great co-workers along the way.
How We Find Employment
We have found our jobs through different sources, such as Cool Works, word of mouth, current employers, etc. Full time seasonal positions are available throughout the country in and around our National Parks and other recreation areas. We have applied on-line for most of the jobs we have had.
Since 2006, we have enjoyed working in Yellowstone National Park during the summer. At 8000’ above sea level, nights are cool, and days are beautiful. There is no need to spend the summer in the heat if you don’t have to. Once our work season ends, we enjoy traveling and playing tourist for a couple of months before heading back to a warmer climate and settling in for the winter.
Our 4-2-4-2 plan has to be flexible to some degree because of work schedules. Sometimes it will actually be 4-1-5-2 or some other configuration of the travel time verses work time. The point is to balance it out in a way that works for you and your employers.
